Pink Paws on the Ground: SUSLA Honors Breast Cancer Survivors Gallery

On October 30, 2025, 麻豆原创 at Shreveport (SUSLA) hosted Pink Paws on the Ground: Honoring Breast Cancer Survivors to celebrate strength, hope, and resilience within the community.

The program opened with remarks by Mr. Ted Scott, Master of Ceremonies, followed by a heartfelt prayer. Chancellor Aubra Gantt provided warm greetings, and 58th Miss SUSLA, Nia Brown, accompanied by the 58th SGA President, Kyndryck Green, welcomed attending guests. A musical tribute by Professor Jibri Houston and his student jazz ensemble set a tone of inspiration and unity.

The guest speaker was Ms. Beatrice Wright, SUSLA alumna, former SGA President, and Nursing graduate. Ms. Wright shared her powerful story of perseverance and friendship with fellow survivor, Ms. Linzola Winzer, Administrative Assistant of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education, who inspired her return to school. With determination, Ms. Wright earned a 3.9 GPA her first semester and now serves as a Charge RN at Ochsner Hospital.

The program also featured a special share from Ms. Yuvette Allen, Academic Advisor of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education, supported by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Iota Zeta Chapter, and a candlelight tribute honoring those who lost their battle with breast cancer. Survivors were presented with special awards for their strength and courage.

Meaningful closing remarks were given by Professor Daphne Thibeaux, followed by a reception in the Jaguar Marketplace. Special thanks are extended to Mr. Donnie Banks, Aramark, and the SUSLA Jag Wellness Advocates for their sponsorship and dedication to promoting breast cancer awareness.

With generous donations from faculty, staff, and the community, Ms. Winzer raised $1,000 for the C. Wright Pink Ribbon Project, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting breast cancer awareness and survivor empowerment.

SUSLA continues to stand united in support of survivors and the importance of early detection because Early Detection Saves Lives!
